Mr. Biggles

Mr. Biggles is my unusual pet. He is a rescue desert tortoise.

Mr. Biggles will come out when it's sunny and when its cold, he will sleep all day.

Mr. Biggles ia a very healthy eater. He eats lettuce, tomatoes, leaves, and almost any natural green
plant. He doesn't need much water. If he gets thisty, he drinks water from the natural envioment.

Does anyone know any facts about Tortoises?
Are you a healthy eater like Mr. Biggles?
Would you like a tortoise as a pet?

  1. Dear Abbey,

I really enjoyed reading your post about Mr. Biggles, your desert tortoise. I thought the photos you took really complemented the text. Well done, Abbey!

You asked if anyone knows any facts about desert tortoises. I went to World Book Online and learned that tortoises use their shell as a defense against enemies. They will pull in their legs and head when threatened. The shell is a physical adaptation. That means it is a body part that helps it survive.

The article mentioned a very long lifespan. Head on over to World Book Online and check it out!

    1. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I did go on to World Book Online and I found out that dessert tortoises can live up to 100 years!

Mr. Biggles is about 65 years old, so he will live about...

      100
      - 65
      -------
      35 more years.

Maybe some tortoises live even longer!

Can you go to World book Online and find out?

  2. Wow, that is an amazing pet. Thank you for sharing him on your post. I think that it is fantastic that your family welcomed him into your home. Where do you keep him? How much does Mr Biggles weigh? I would like to have a pet tortoise, but I don't think he would get along very well with our dog. Do you have other pets too? Do they all get along?

I can't wait to read more of your posts.

    From,
    Victoria

    1. Dear Victoria,

Mr. Biggles lives in our front yard. If you get a tortoise, and your dog does not get along with him, I think your dog could out run Mr. Biggles.:D If the your dog trys to attack a tortiose, he can hide in his hard shell.

Mr. Biggles weighs about 80 pounds. Well, that's what my dad thinks.

If you want to see Mr. Biggles on Mrs. Yollis blog, feel free!

      What is your dog's name?

      Sincerely,
