Welcome to my new blog!
My name is Abbey, and I hope you have a great experience reading my blog. I enjoy having this artistry because this is an amazing opportunity to contribute to conversations, view and display pictures, and make new global friends.
I have many hobbies. Playing the piano is one of my favorites. I have mastered the beginner version of Fur Elise by Beethoven, and I am now working on Yankee Doodle.

Art is a passion of mine. I like to draw portraits of people and animals. In addition, I enjoy sculpting. I've created ceramic bowls, colorful vases, and an orange statue seen below. I named her Lilly.

These are some of the animals I drew!

What are your hobbies?
What topics do you recommend for future blog post?
Please feel free to communicate, interact, and have fun!
Dear Abbey,
ReplyDeleteYour blog is very fabulous!
My hobbies are reading, drawing, and dancing. My second favorite hobby is drawing because you can draw anything you want and you can be very creative.
I can see that you like to play piano. I know someone that can play piano too. He is my Uncle. he is very good at playing piano and think you are too. He has taught me how to play Mary Had A Little Lamb.
Do you know how to play Mary Had A Little Lamb?
Sincerly,
Keira
Dear Keira,
DeleteYou said you liked reading. What's your favorite book? What kind of dance do you like to perform?
As funny as it sounds, I was never taught Mary Had A little Lamb; maybe I could learn! Did your Uncle teach you any other songs?
Thanks for commenting,
Abbey
@ Abbey,
DeleteMy favorite book is Little Women because it is very interesting and very sweet at the same time. What is your favorite book?
No, my Uncle did not teach me any other songs but I hope he will. Does your Uncle play the piano?
Warmly,
Keira
Dear Abbey,
ReplyDeleteYou are so good at drawing! I thought you colored them out of a coloring book for a minute! But then I saw the turtle that you drew when the class was having fun Friday. My hobbies are drawing and reading. My favorite book is Little Women. What is your favorite book?
Warmly,
Jenna♥
Dear Jenna,
DeleteMy favorite book is Little House In The Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I enjoy reading in my cozy bed. Where do you like to read?
Cheers,
Abbey
Dear Abbey,
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed that you got your own blog. My hobbies are baseball and alpha smarting. You finished alpha smarting, so it does not surprise me you got your own blog. It is amazing that four of our friends got blogs. When did you know you got your own blog? You have a turtle named Mr. Biggles. How old is Mr. Biggles? That is amazing that Mrs. Yollis won for the best class blog. I did not know about it until the day after the winners got announced.
Do you have a dog?
Sincerely,
Bryce
Dear Bryce,
DeleteI don't know what day I was told, but I remember my mom saying you got your own blog! I also drew a conclusion. Collin's dad, Heathers mom, and my mom, went into a meeting in the beginning of January. That's when Mrs. Yollis said some students would be getting blogs.
I don't have a dog. If I could get one, I would want a white Maltese. Do you have a dog?
Sincerely,
Abbey
Dear Abbey,
DeleteYou said there was a meeting, but where was the meeting? The beginning of January was just a few weeks ago. So you knew in the beginning of the month.
You said you would get a Maltese. Yes, I have two dogs that are Cotons. I have two white fluffy dogs.
How long did it take you to finish alphasmarting?
Sincerely,
Bryce
Dear Bryce,
DeleteThe parent blog meeting was in the classroom, but I did not know then what the meeting was about.
I finished alphsmarting December 21st. Can you figure out how long it took me? What are your dogs' names?
Sincerely,
Abbey
Dear Abbey,
DeleteThat is weird that the meeting was in the classroom. I bet the meeting was about the four students getting their own blogs. Mrs. Yollis probably taught the parents how to proofread, how to make sure the writing is good enough to be put on the blog, and what Mrs. Yollis expects from them.
I do not know how long it took you.
You asked me about my pets. I have two dogs and their names areBogey and Birdey.
What would you name your dog?
Sincerely,
Bryce
Dear Bryce,
DeleteIf I could get a Maltese I would name it Biscuits. I think our class started alphasmarting in September, so I think it was about five months. That's about 150 days!
When do you think your going to finish the aphasmarting program?
Thanks for blogging,
Abbey
Dear Abbey,
DeleteI think that I know why you named your dog Biscuits. Is it because of a dog treat that's called a Biscuit? Am I right?
That was very good addition, Abbey. I think that I am going to finish alpha smarting in late February or early March.
You said you didn't play the piano. Then what did you play as a instrument?
Sincerely,
Bryce
Dear Abbey,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the wonderful world of blogging! You are a hardworking student and have put forth great effort in the area of writing and connecting through blogging. Fabulous job, Abbey!
I love your blog title, Abbey's Articulate Artistry. Awesome alliteration! :-) I looked up "articulate" for everyone.
ADJECTIVE: having or showing the ability to speak fluently and coherently.
That certainly describes you!
The template you've chosen is beautiful as well! I think the colorful dots are a type of photography called bokeh. This photographic technique blurs light in a beautiful way. I'm not sure it's bokeh, just thinking about what it could be. :-)
The gadgets you've chosen are also terrific. I added my email address to your "Follow by Email" gadget and will now get an email every time you publish a post. I invite your readers to do the same!
The next step would be to add some student bloggers and class blogs to a blog roll. I use the "List" gadget, but with your parents help, you can create one. I'll show all of you on Tuesday if you need some help.
You asked about hobbies. My favorite pastimes (synonym for hobbies) are hiking and being out in nature, practicing yoga, and blogging. As you know, I frequently hike with my adorable Labrador retriever, Buck!
Hmmm, what to write about? I find that posts can come from anywhere! Sometimes they are about a specific hobby or interest. Sometimes a post can be about something you discovered in your backyard or a topic you learned in school. Be observant! Look for a stories, they're all around you if you pay attention!
Your drawings are stupendous! Have you taken lessons?
Your proud teacher,
Mrs. Y♥llis
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
DeleteI also adore my template. My idiea for my title came from my sister Alison. I had taken art lessons a long time ago. I have been inspired by Alison's artwork and thought it would be fabulous to be an artist.
Your excited student,
Abbey
Hi Abbey,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Mrs. Conley. I like your blog very much. Mrs. Yollis must be proud of you to share your blog on Twitter with her friends!
I am so glad you added pictures of your artwork. I used to teaching drawing classes to students your age and older. You have great potential in your drawings. The details are great. I particularly like the eyes. I don't teach drawing now but I always like to see great artwork.
Thinking about your question about what to blog about I would say write about something you love. It looks like you have a good start on that already. :)
I like to blog too. I blog about technology for teachers. My job now is to show our high school teachers new ways to make learning fun with technology. I love my job!
Keep up the great work with your blog and your artwork!
Take care, Mrs. Conley
Dear Mrs. Conley,
DeleteI love your suggestions about what to blog about.
It is wonderful you enjoy your job teaching high school teachers about using technology in a fun way!
Thank you for taking the time to contribute to my blog!
Sincerely,
Abbey
Hi Abbey,
ReplyDeleteWell done on your blog. Your blog title is very original. The colours you have used in your blog are warm and vibrant.
Well done on mastering Fur Elise. It used to be one of my party pieces. Your photograph was clever too. I teach seven and eight year olds. To be safe online, we never post photos of the children in which they could be recognised. The challenge then is to get their personality and character across. I think you have succeeded in this challenge.
My hobbies are art and craft, blogging and walking my dog. You ask for suggestions for future blogs. I am a great believer in one's sense of place. Places are important to people and the place we are born in or live in can be part of who we are. What do you like about the place you live. How has the place you live made you the person you are today. That we live beside the sea is very important to the children in my class. I grew up beside the sea and am very glad that the area I moved to as an adult is also near the sea. I couldn't imagine living inland.
You could also write about your music. When did you start piano? Do you come from a musical family? How does music make you feel? My class love music and we are learning the recorder. Music is very unifying for them, when we all play together. They are never as happy as when they are all singing together. It makes for a happy class :)
It was lovely reading your blog and good luck with it.
2nd Class, Room 6 and their Teacher, Merry Beau
Dear Merry Beau,
DeleteI like where I live because the weather is usually warm. I assume your from Australia. What is it like where you live?
I started piano about three months ago. My brother,Joey, plays guitar, bass, and drums. I thought it would be cool to start playing piano. I also can play guitar. I have memorized Smoke on the Water.
Thanks for blogging,
Abbey
Hi Abbey, Only three months learning the piano and you are playing Fur Elise. You must be very talented and practicing hard. Already being able to play the guitar would have helped certainly. 'Smoke on the Water'is very tuneful.
DeleteI see you must come from a musical family if your brother plays all those instruments. It is lovely to play the piano, but handy to play the guitar as it is easily carried and you are more likely to play in a group than if you played the piano.
2nd Class Room 6 and myself actually live in Ireland and no part of Ireland would be more than 160km from the sea :)Some students in my class are hoping for a 'snow day' because the temperature has dropped, but I have my fingers crossed that the weather will stay fine.
With every good wish,
2nd Class, Room 6 and their Teacher, Merry Beau
Dear Merry Beau,
DeleteThank you for the kind words. Actually, I do not come from a musical family, but my siblings are very interested in playing instuments also.
I cannot believe you live in Ireland; I wish to go there someday. I feel very fortunate that someone so far away is blogging with me! Thank you for blogging.
Cheers,
Abbey
Dear Abbey,
ReplyDeleteLike Mrs Yollis wrote in her comment I too would like to welcome you to the wonderful world of blogging one that I know you will truly love.
Your blog looks awesome and I love your background it is so bright and fun.
You have wonderful hobbies and I must say what a fine drawer you are.
I too when I was your age would love to draw but somehow I no longer do.
Now as for hobbies I do love to work with my hands whether it be knitting, or sewing and of course blogging.
Hope you make heaps of wonderful connections as you blog as a matter of fact you have right now as I live in Australia.
Happy Blogging Abbey,
Sincerely AA :)
Dear AA,
DeleteI also adore my background of the blog, and also I like to knit. Right now I am working on a beenie.
Have you ever been to the United States?
If not, would you like to go someday?
If so, what is the biggest difference between Austraila and the U.S?
Your friend,
Abbey
Dear Abbey,
ReplyDeleteMy favorite hobby is basketball, but my mom's favorite hobbies are scuba diving and horseback riding.
I also take piano lessons and got new songs to play. They are Surfing Safari by the Beach Boys and In the Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt Suite by Edvard Grieg. We have a recital in the spring.
Which is your favorite picture? They are all beautiful!
Your friends,
Katelyn and Pam
Dear Katelyn and Pam,
DeleteI love to play basketball. I also love to play soccer, baseball, and volleyball. Pam, what have you seen when you've gone scuba diving? Katlyen, do you play in a basketball leage? My favorite picture that I drew is the tortise because it's meant to be Mr. Biggles! ( My pet tortise)
Sincerely,
Abbey
Dear Abbey,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on earning your own blog! You should be very proud of your accomplishment. I too play the piano and one of my favorite pieces is Fur Elise. Keep up practicing and soon you will be playing the original version. I also really liked your animal drawings and wish I could draw as well as you do. How did you learn to draw so well?
I am a parent of 2 former students of Mrs. Yollis who also earned their own blogs. It has been a fantastic experience and I hope this hobby stays with you for many years to come. I look forward to reading your future posts.
Best,
Victoria
Dear Victoria,
DeleteI learned to draw from my sister Alison and started to get good at art when I was about six ,but I'm even doing better at art now. What is another piano piece you like to play? What are your kids' blog titles? Maybe I can comment on their blogs!
Sincerely,
Abbey
Thank you for replying back to me. You have wonderful blogging etiquette. It sounds like you are becoming a dedicated artist. There are many piano pieces that I like, but probably one of my favorite composers is Chopin. I like just about everything he wrote. He brings a lot of emotion to his music. Have you heard any of his pieces?
DeleteMy kids blogs are Miriam's Magical Moments and Come Somersault with Sarah. They are listed on Mrs. Yollis' student blog list. They also play the piano and have recorded some of their music on their blogs.
I can't wait to see more from you.
Best,
Victoria
Dear Abbey,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on earning your own blog!
I like the drawings you published in this post. In particular, I like the contrast of the strong black lines with the softness of the colors, accomplished through mixing different mediums. Did you use black pen and colored pencils?
Kind regards,
Mrs. Watanabe
Dear Mrs. Watanabe,
DeleteYou are correct; I used colored pencils for the inside and black sharpie for the outline. You must be an artist!Do you draw or do some other kind of art.
Thank you for blogging,
Abbey

ReplyDeleteI am a classroom teacher from New Zealand, normally I would have my students do the commenting but at the moment on our side of the world its Summer so it means that our students are on their end of year break, I'll get my students to come back here at the end of the month once they come back to school.
You talked about what you should write about or post about on your blog. I think you should write about things that are important to you, but also things that you are involved in. When we talk to people around the world its always the similarities and differences with students that they find interesting, like food, what happens at school and what you do in your spare time.
You are incredibly lucky to have Mrs Yollis classroom she is such a wonderful teacher and you will receive such a wonderful education online with thousands of visitors from around the world. We will be visiting your site from New Zealand, good luck on your blogging journey.

Dear, Mr. Webb and Room Five, Melville Intermediate School, Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand,
DeleteThank you for the suggestions on what to blog about; they were great! I am involved in sports. I play soccer and am signed up for a volleyball league. What sports are popular for kids in New Zealand?
What grades are Intermediate?
Have you ever met Mrs. Yollis in person?
Sincerely,
Abbey
Dear Abbey,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on earning your own blog! My favorite hobbies are reading, dancing, and singing. I don't play the piano but I wish I did. Your animal drawings are really cute.
I hope you have an amazing time blogging with your friends and family. :-)
Have fun,
Aashi
Abbey! I love your Blog. And the picture of the turtle is my favorite one. I did not know you play the piano. Uncle Richard and I really like your Blog. Love, Aunt Cindy
ReplyDeleteViele Grüße (Many Greetings, in German) Mrs. Yollis and your Class,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Tom and I’m Abbey Handel’s Uncle. My Wife (Abbey’s Aunt) Cindy
and I, along with our daughter Stacy, live in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Minnesota is in the north central United States just south of Canada and next to Lake Superior which is the largest fresh water lake in the world. Say Mrs. Yollis, maybe Abbey can show the class where Minnesota and Lake Superior are on the map. No one went swimming in the lake last night because the temperature was 18 blow zero on the beach and it will be 24 below zero tonight. No; not wind chill, real temperature. The wind chill tonight will be 38 below zero by the beach. Abbey’s sister Allison and brother Joey were on the same beach in their swimming suits a few years ago. It was warmer by the beach then. With all that being said, Uncle Tom thinks he will be staying inside today.
Thank you for letting me contribute to your blog and it looks like you have a sehr spaß (very fun) class. Good job Mrs. Yollis.
Freundlichste Rücksichten (Kindest Regards),
Tom
Dear Uncle Tom,
DeleteThank you so much for taking the time to comment! I admire how you also used German.
In Minnesota kann es richtig kalt im Winter. Über Winterpause ging ich nach Wisconsin. (Sie besucht, als wir dort waren) Der kälteste es hat 7 Grad war!
In Minnesota it can get really cold in the Winter. Over Winter break I went to Wisconsin.(you visited when we were there)The coldest it got was 7 degrees!
What's the coldest temperature you have ever experienced?
Thanks for blogging,
Abbey
Viele Grüße (Many Greetings, in German) Abbey,
DeleteBefore you were born your family came to our house for a besucht (visit). While they were here the temp. dropped to 20 below zero. Boy was your dad surprised! Also, I use to work for the railroad. One day I spoke with a train crew in Thief River Falls, MN that was trying to get a train to start moving that had stopped. The Conductor on the train said it was 45 below zero. Boy I’ll tell you, Uncle Tom was glad he worked in an office that day. But the coldest places in the lower 48 States are Tower & Embarrass Minnesota.
Here is what Wikipedia has to say about Tower, MN
“Tower, MN set the Minnesota record for coldest temperature on February 2, 1996, when the temperature dropped to -60°F (-51°C). This was the lowest temperature ever recorded in the United States east of the Great Plains. Tower and the Embarrass Valley to the south are the coldest inhabited locations in the Lower 48 states, based on average winter temperatures.”
Chapian
Maybe Frau Yollis can show your class where Tower and Embarrass Minnesota are on the map. They are very cold because they both sit in a depression. All the cold air in the area sinks down into the depression. But you will learn all about that in science class.
Es tut mir leid, aber ich muss jetzt gehen. (I'm sorry but I must go now.) Your aunt Cindy needs my hilfe (help).
Gute Gesundheit (Good Health)
Uncle Tom
PS Abbey; do me a favor, try to learn & use the German phrase “Es tut mir leid” I believe the last word is pronounced like our “lite” It means “ I’m sorry”. We had a German exchange student stay with us and when she’d say that it sounded almost poetic.
Dear Uncle Tom,
DeleteWow! It gets really cold in Minnesota!
In the winter time in California, it is about 50 degrees.

Abbey: Uncle Richard and I LOVE your blog!! The turtle drawing is my favorite picture you drew. YOU could maybe talk about what it is like to be a fraternal twin and what is fun about having a twin brother?! Love, Aunt Cindy & Uncle Richard in Wisconsin
ReplyDeleteDear Aunt Cindy and Uncle Richard,
DeleteThank you for commenting on the blog!
Being a twin can be good and bad. First, a good thing is you always have someone to play with. A not so good thing is we fight alot because we are always together. There are probably more positive things than negative.
What is the weather like in Milwaukee right now?
Your niece,
Abbey
Dear Abbey,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
You are very artistic! Aashi and I really enjoy your creative pictures. We see you like animals, and you like to draw them. What is your favorite animal to draw?
Aashi already wrote her favorite hobbies, but I (Chloe) have some hobbies too! Chloe's favorite hobbies are: tennis, swimming, art, and blogging.
Artistically,
A♣shi and Chl♥e
Dear Abbey,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on having a new blog!
I love all the pictures you drew! My favorite picture is of your turtle! I like your turtle because it is your tortoise Mr. Biggles! Which one is your favorite and why?
Your art loving friend,
Jules♥
Dear Jules♥,
DeleteThank for commenting!
My favorite picture that I drew is ,also, Mr. Biggles! I love that picture most because he is my pet, and I love him!
Do you like Mr. Biggles?
What's your second favorite picture?
Maybe you can try to draw an animal!
Your friend,
Abbey ♥
Dear Abbey,
ReplyDeleteYour sculpture is great same as your drawings. I like the turtle more because I really like turtles. Did you ever go to art class?
Sincerely,
Parsa
Dear Abbey♥,
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting back!
I do love Mr.Biggles, but my mom is very scared that he'll bite her or chase her! I'm not scared of Mr. Biggles at all!
My second favorite picture is actually the dog, then the pony, then the cat! It was very hard to choose which one I liked, but I finally made up my mind!
Also,I did try drawing with the new drawing book my mom got for us! Guess what, there's actually a tortoise!
Your loving Mr. Biggles friend,
Jules♥
Dear Jules♥,
ReplyDeleteI don't blame your mom for being scared of Mr. Biggles. He bite me once and it really hurt.:( My second favorite picture is the cat, then the pony, and finally the dog. Someday you can send a picture that you drew, and I can post it up on the blog!
What do you like most about the pictures?
If you could draw anything in the world, what would it be?
Your blogging loving friend,
Abbey♥
Dear Abbey,
ReplyDeleteI am in a technology class at the University of Mobile in Alabama and our professor suggested we look at Mrs. Yollis' class blogs for ideas! Most of us in the class are new bloggers and I really enjoyed all the pictures you have put on your blog. It is a great idea to put visual aid so people know and can see what you are talking about! I used to play piano. I played for thirteen years then had to quit because high school gets super busy! Let me tell you this though, even if you want to quit, NEVER QUIT PIANO! I miss it so much and I wish I could play as well as I used to. Keep it up because it is a great hobby to do for fun and it is a great talent too!
Thanks so much for sharing such a wonderful and colorful blog!
Sincerely,
Emily
Dear Abbey!,
ReplyDeleteI am going to be honest with you Miss Abbey, I have never read a blog before but when I heard about Mrs.Yollis and ya'lls classroom project I automatically thought how cool and neat of an idea it is to have a classroom blog. I am impressed with your artwork; you are such a talented young lady! I can barely draw a circle let alone the cute animals that you drawn so well. I also would like to praise your piano skills. I took lessons off and on when I was younger but was never able to stick with it and see it through and Fur Elise is a beautiful number and a great piece to have in your repertoier. Your site is wonderful and I think something that you could add is perhaps a "how-to" section for us non-drawers. Maybe you could do a video showing your readers step by step how you create your art work and that would be another great way of putting your artistry out there. Once again Abbey I have truly enjoyed connecting with you in such a unique way. I hope all is well in your neck of the woods and I hope you continue to shoot for the stars.
Sincerely,
Chrysanthemum Norman
Dear Abby,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed looking at your new blog! I have just started a blog too for one of my classes.
We share similar hobbies. I also play piano, and I think you should post a video of you performing your Beethoven piece. Congrats on learning his music. It can be very difficult! What is your favorite piece you have learned so far? Keep up the practice!
Your new blogging friend,
Hillary
Dear Abbey,
ReplyDeleteYour blog is great! Your drawing are amazing, i am 21 years old and i have yet to master stick people. I love that you are beginning to play the piano, as i would love to learn to play myself. Keep up the good work!
Kayla Hopkins
Greetings Abbey,
ReplyDeleteCould I add a photo in my message to your blog?
Best Wishes,
Uncle Tom
