Welcome

                        Welcome to my new blog!

My name is Abbey, and I hope you have a great experience reading my blog. I enjoy having this artistry because this is an amazing opportunity to  contribute to conversations, view and display pictures, and make new global friends.

I have many hobbies. Playing the piano is one of my favorites. I have mastered the beginner version of Fur Elise by Beethoven, and I am now working on Yankee Doodle.

Art is a passion of mine. I like to draw portraits of people and animals. In addition, I enjoy sculpting. I've created ceramic bowls, colorful vases, and an orange statue seen below. I named her Lilly.

  1. Dear Abbey,

    Your blog is very fabulous!

My hobbies are reading, drawing, and dancing. My second favorite hobby is drawing because you can draw anything you want and you can be very creative.

I can see that you like to play piano. I know someone that can play piano too. He is my Uncle. he is very good at playing piano and think you are too. He has taught me how to play Mary Had A Little Lamb.

Do you know how to play Mary Had A Little Lamb?

    Sincerly,

You said you liked reading. What's your favorite book? What kind of dance do you like to perform?

As funny as it sounds, I was never taught Mary Had A little Lamb; maybe I could learn! Did your Uncle teach you any other songs?

      Thanks for commenting,

My favorite book is Little Women because it is very interesting and very sweet at the same time. What is your favorite book?

No, my Uncle did not teach me any other songs but I hope he will. Does your Uncle play the piano?

  2. Dear Abbey,

You are so good at drawing! I thought you colored them out of a coloring book for a minute! But then I saw the turtle that you drew when the class was having fun Friday. My hobbies are drawing and reading. My favorite book is Little Women. What is your favorite book?

  3. Dear Abbey,

I am so impressed that you got your own blog. My hobbies are baseball and alpha smarting. You finished alpha smarting, so it does not surprise me you got your own blog. It is amazing that four of our friends got blogs. When did you know you got your own blog? You have a turtle named Mr. Biggles. How old is Mr. Biggles? That is amazing that Mrs. Yollis won for the best class blog. I did not know about it until the day after the winners got announced.

    Do you have a dog?

    Sincerely,

    1. Dear Bryce,

I don't know what day I was told, but I remember my mom saying you got your own blog! I also drew a conclusion. Collin's dad, Heathers mom, and my mom, went into a meeting in the beginning of January. That's when Mrs. Yollis said some students would be getting blogs.
I don't have a dog. If I could get one, I would want a white Maltese. Do you have a dog?

      Sincerely,
      Abbey

    2. Dear Abbey,

You said there was a meeting, but where was the meeting? The beginning of January was just a few weeks ago. So you knew in the beginning of the month.

You said you would get a Maltese. Yes, I have two dogs that are Cotons. I have two white fluffy dogs.

How long did it take you to finish alphasmarting?

      Sincerely,

    3. Dear Bryce,

The parent blog meeting was in the classroom, but I did not know then what the meeting was about.

I finished alphsmarting December 21st. Can you figure out how long it took me? What are your dogs' names?

      Sincerely,
      Abbey

    4. Dear Abbey,

That is weird that the meeting was in the classroom. I bet the meeting was about the four students getting their own blogs. Mrs. Yollis probably taught the parents how to proofread, how to make sure the writing is good enough to be put on the blog, and what Mrs. Yollis expects from them.

I do not know how long it took you.

You asked me about my pets. I have two dogs and their names areBogey and Birdey.

What would you name your dog?

      Sincerely,
      Bryce

    5. Dear Bryce,

If I could get a Maltese I would name it Biscuits. I think our class started alphasmarting in September, so I think it was about five months. That's about 150 days!

When do you think your going to finish the aphasmarting program?

      Thanks for blogging,
      Abbey

    6. Dear Abbey,

I think that I know why you named your dog Biscuits. Is it because of a dog treat that's called a Biscuit? Am I right?

That was very good addition, Abbey. I think that I am going to finish alpha smarting in late February or early March.

You said you didn't play the piano. Then what did you play as a instrument?

      Sincerely,

  4. Dear Abbey,

Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging! You are a hardworking student and have put forth great effort in the area of writing and connecting through blogging. Fabulous job, Abbey!

I love your blog title, Abbey's Articulate Artistry. Awesome alliteration! :-) I looked up "articulate" for everyone.

ADJECTIVE: having or showing the ability to speak fluently and coherently.

    That certainly describes you!

The template you've chosen is beautiful as well! I think the colorful dots are a type of photography called bokeh. This photographic technique blurs light in a beautiful way. I'm not sure it's bokeh, just thinking about what it could be. :-)

The gadgets you've chosen are also terrific. I added my email address to your "Follow by Email" gadget and will now get an email every time you publish a post. I invite your readers to do the same!

The next step would be to add some student bloggers and class blogs to a blog roll. I use the "List" gadget, but with your parents help, you can create one. I'll show all of you on Tuesday if you need some help.

You asked about hobbies. My favorite pastimes (synonym for hobbies) are hiking and being out in nature, practicing yoga, and blogging. As you know, I frequently hike with my adorable Labrador retriever, Buck!

Hmmm, what to write about? I find that posts can come from anywhere! Sometimes they are about a specific hobby or interest. Sometimes a post can be about something you discovered in your backyard or a topic you learned in school. Be observant! Look for a stories, they're all around you if you pay attention!

Your drawings are stupendous! Have you taken lessons?

  5. Hi Abbey,

My name is Mrs. Conley. I like your blog very much. Mrs. Yollis must be proud of you to share your blog on Twitter with her friends!

I am so glad you added pictures of your artwork. I used to teaching drawing classes to students your age and older. You have great potential in your drawings. The details are great. I particularly like the eyes. I don't teach drawing now but I always like to see great artwork.

Thinking about your question about what to blog about I would say write about something you love. It looks like you have a good start on that already. :)

I like to blog too. I blog about technology for teachers. My job now is to show our high school teachers new ways to make learning fun with technology. I love my job!

Keep up the great work with your blog and your artwork!

  6. Hi Abbey,

Well done on your blog. Your blog title is very original. The colours you have used in your blog are warm and vibrant.

Well done on mastering Fur Elise. It used to be one of my party pieces. Your photograph was clever too. I teach seven and eight year olds. To be safe online, we never post photos of the children in which they could be recognised. The challenge then is to get their personality and character across. I think you have succeeded in this challenge.

My hobbies are art and craft, blogging and walking my dog. You ask for suggestions for future blogs. I am a great believer in one's sense of place. Places are important to people and the place we are born in or live in can be part of who we are. What do you like about the place you live. How has the place you live made you the person you are today. That we live beside the sea is very important to the children in my class. I grew up beside the sea and am very glad that the area I moved to as an adult is also near the sea. I couldn't imagine living inland.

You could also write about your music. When did you start piano? Do you come from a musical family? How does music make you feel? My class love music and we are learning the recorder. Music is very unifying for them, when we all play together. They are never as happy as when they are all singing together. It makes for a happy class :)

It was lovely reading your blog and good luck with it.

    2. Hi Abbey, Only three months learning the piano and you are playing Fur Elise. You must be very talented and practicing hard. Already being able to play the guitar would have helped certainly. 'Smoke on the Water'is very tuneful.

I see you must come from a musical family if your brother plays all those instruments. It is lovely to play the piano, but handy to play the guitar as it is easily carried and you are more likely to play in a group than if you played the piano.

2nd Class Room 6 and myself actually live in Ireland and no part of Ireland would be more than 160km from the sea :)Some students in my class are hoping for a 'snow day' because the temperature has dropped, but I have my fingers crossed that the weather will stay fine.

and I, along with our daughter Stacy, live in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Minnesota is in the north central United States just south of Canada and next to Lake Superior which is the largest fresh water lake in the world. Say Mrs. Yollis, maybe Abbey can show the class where Minnesota and Lake Superior are on the map. No one went swimming in the lake last night because the temperature was 18 blow zero on the beach and it will be 24 below zero tonight. No; not wind chill, real temperature. The wind chill tonight will be 38 below zero by the beach. Abbey’s sister Allison and brother Joey were on the same beach in their swimming suits a few years ago. It was warmer by the beach then. With all that being said, Uncle Tom thinks he will be staying inside today.

Before you were born your family came to our house for a besucht (visit). While they were here the temp. dropped to 20 below zero. Boy was your dad surprised! Also, I use to work for the railroad. One day I spoke with a train crew in Thief River Falls, MN that was trying to get a train to start moving that had stopped. The Conductor on the train said it was 45 below zero. Boy I’ll tell you, Uncle Tom was glad he worked in an office that day. But the coldest places in the lower 48 States are Tower & Embarrass Minnesota.

Here is what Wikipedia has to say about Tower, MN

“Tower, MN set the Minnesota record for coldest temperature on February 2, 1996, when the temperature dropped to -60°F (-51°C). This was the lowest temperature ever recorded in the United States east of the Great Plains. Tower and the Embarrass Valley to the south are the coldest inhabited locations in the Lower 48 states, based on average winter temperatures.”
      Chapian
Maybe Frau Yollis can show your class where Tower and Embarrass Minnesota are on the map. They are very cold because they both sit in a depression. All the cold air in the area sinks down into the depression. But you will learn all about that in science class.
Es tut mir leid, aber ich muss jetzt gehen. (I'm sorry but I must go now.) Your aunt Cindy needs my hilfe (help).

PS Abbey; do me a favor, try to learn & use the German phrase “Es tut mir leid” I believe the last word is pronounced like our “lite” It means “ I’m sorry”. We had a German exchange student stay with us and when she’d say that it sounded almost poetic.

I am going to be honest with you Miss Abbey, I have never read a blog before but when I heard about Mrs.Yollis and ya'lls classroom project I automatically thought how cool and neat of an idea it is to have a classroom blog. I am impressed with your artwork; you are such a talented young lady! I can barely draw a circle let alone the cute animals that you drawn so well. I also would like to praise your piano skills. I took lessons off and on when I was younger but was never able to stick with it and see it through and Fur Elise is a beautiful number and a great piece to have in your repertoier. Your site is wonderful and I think something that you could add is perhaps a "how-to" section for us non-drawers. Maybe you could do a video showing your readers step by step how you create your art work and that would be another great way of putting your artistry out there. Once again Abbey I have truly enjoyed connecting with you in such a unique way. I hope all is well in your neck of the woods and I hope you continue to shoot for the stars.
